A masterclass in stating the obvious.

I find playing with guys that are good at swing to be the most exhilarating part about playing music.The question is, how much should you vary swing from phrase to phrase, if at all. And still stay coherent. Because it can get predictable like anything else. An unexpected change in swing really makes you hold onto your hat and move your feet!

I really appreciate this. Practicing with recordings that have great feel is a huge part of becoming a musician. This makes it possible to play along without retuning your instrument- or- the reason I landed here: to use the bass line as a teaching tool for chromatic intonation in 1/2 position on double bass while doing something that doesn't sound like a chromatic intonation exercise.

So good! I find it interesting that Sinead O'Connor used Brown's Funky Drummer on her rendition of the traditional Irish tune "I am stretched on your grave", to great effect. She starts the singing a bit earlier than the first beat, landing "streched" and "grave" right on the strong beats.
